Travel business
Explore what an independent travel-advisor business actually involves before deciding whether it fits you.
Explore the BusinessWhat a travel advisor does
Advisors consult with clients, research suppliers and destinations, present options, handle bookings and payments through approved channels, prepare documentation, and stay reachable while clients are away. The expertise is real and it is learned.
Consultations, preference gathering, proposals, documentation and care while clients travel.
Presenting options clearly, answering objections honestly and asking for the decision.
Most travel decisions take months. Staying present without pressure is the whole skill.
Records, deadlines, payments through approved channels, and your own business compliance.
Business ownership
Independent advisors generally operate as self-employed business owners. You set your own schedule, build your own client base, and are responsible for your own marketing, record keeping, insurance requirements and taxes. Your specific terms are defined by the agreements you enter into — read them carefully and seek professional advice where appropriate.
The host agency relationship
A host agency typically provides accreditation, supplier access, booking systems, support and back-office services in exchange for fees, a share of commission, or both. It is a business relationship with defined terms — including how commissions are paid, what fees apply, and what happens if you leave. Compare hosts on those specifics rather than on atmosphere.
