Ask about money in writing
Every number should exist in a document you can read before you commit.
- What is the commission structure, and when is commission paid?
- What fees apply — startup, monthly, annual, technology, errors and omissions insurance?
- Are there minimums, quotas or activity requirements?
- What happens to pending commissions if I leave?
Ask about support and training
Who answers a question at 7pm before a client departs? Is training live, recorded or self-directed? Is there supplier-specific education, and who pays for it?
Ask about ownership and exit
Who owns the client records you create? What notice is required to leave? Are there non-solicitation terms? Read the agreement yourself, and consider having a professional review it.
