Fewer camps, longer stays
The most common first-safari mistake is too many camps. Three nights in each of two or three well-chosen camps beats two nights in four, because every move costs you a morning and an afternoon of game viewing.
Private conservancies change the experience
Conservancies typically allow off-road driving, night drives and walking, with far fewer vehicles at a sighting. For many travelers that matters more than the specific region.
Guides make the trip
The single greatest variable in a safari is the guide. Ask who you will be with, whether the camp offers a private vehicle, and what the guide-to-guest ratio is.
