Decide the shape of the trip first
Before destinations, decide the shape: how many nights, how many bases, how much movement. Most disappointing trips are not badly booked — they are badly paced.
- Total nights available, including travel days
- Maximum number of hotel changes you will tolerate
- One anchor experience the trip is built around
- The day you want to do absolutely nothing
Settle the money conversation early
A real number, stated early, produces better options than a vague one. Include flights, accommodation, ground transport, dining, experiences, gratuities and insurance so the budget reflects the trip rather than the room rate.
Then the details that quietly matter
Bed configuration, room category, airport transfers, dietary needs, mobility considerations, connectivity and time-zone recovery all shape the experience more than most travelers expect. Decide them before booking, not after arrival.
